Back in The Day

Take a look at the fashion back then.

This was taken at a market in Asuncion.

I believe this is the open market on Palma back in the day.

Looks like something you'd see in a movie.

These old photos fascinate me!

More Then and Now

La Recoleta Church and cemetary on Mariscal Lopez

This is a handpainted postcard of the Recoleta church.

Calle Palma in the 50's

Calle Palma now

El Bolsi Confiteria and Restaurant then

Then and Now

I love looking at old photos of Paraguay and comparing them with how things are today. Some things are very different while others haven't changed much.

This is the Paraguayan Palacio del Gobierno then...

This is a more recent photo of the same palacio.

A color enhanced photo of a downtown building, El Banco Mercantil in 1900.

You can see the building on the left of this photos is the same building.

And again the building on the right side of this photo over 20 years ago. Sadly it was demolished to build a taller building.

May 15 is Mother's Day in Paraguay.

Since its also a national holiday (Independence day) it makes it that much easier to spend time with mom.

Independence Day

May 15 is a special day in Paraguay...Independence Day.
You will notice the colors of red, white, and blue appearing in many shop windows and the Paraguayan flag will be displayed in many places as well.

Luque celebrates this day by having a parade.

The main street through Luque is blocked off and becomes lined with spectators trying to catch a glimps of the students they know.

Students from many of Luque's schools will march right down the middle of main street.

Its a fun time to be patriotic and support the nations schools.
